July 13, 2020

Dear Friends,

On July 13, Governor Whitmer passed Executive Order 2020-147. Per the Michigan.gov website: “No business, including local and state government offices open to the public, may provide service to a customer or allow a customer to enter its premises, unless the customer is wearing a face covering as required by this order.” In compliance with this order, anyone entering a GDL library must wear a face mask.

Below is the reopening plan that we have followed. Please know that this plan may be revised at any time.

Monday, June 8

Phase 1 (Staff Only) includes:

  • Distribution of PPEs
  • Distribution of cleaning supplies
  • Training of staff on PPEs and new procedures
  • Checking in the thousands of items returned during the temporary closure
  • Preparation of social distancing layouts in branches
  • Preparation of quarantine procedures for returned items
  • No volunteers
  • No donations

Monday, June 15

Phase 2 (Limited Public Access) includes:

  • Open doors to a limited number of patrons at a time (numbers vary by branch and are 25% of Maximum Occupancy per building).
  • Computer sessions are available on a first come, first served basis and are limited to 1 hour per patron, per day.
  • Patrons will be instructed to comply with social distancing.
  • Patrons will be encouraged to wear a mask.
  • If patrons are unable to enter the building (because the maximum limit has been reached) they may call the library and arrange for items on hold to be delivered to them “curbside” as soon as staff are able.
  • High-touch surfaces will be cleaned hourly.
  • All in-house programs are cancelled through December 31, 2020.
  • No volunteers
  • No donations

Phase 3 (Some Restrictions Lifted – Date to be Determined) may include:

  • More patrons at a time allowed in buildings
  • Longer computer sessions
  • Less social distancing restrictions
  • No volunteers
  • No donations

Phase 4 Date to be Determined

  • Back to pre COVID-19 practices and procedures

Additional Safety Precautions

  • All staff (unless otherwise excused due to a medical doctor’s order) will be required to wear a mask while less than 6 feet from each other or members of the public.
  • No member of our staff will be allowed to work if they do not pass a daily health screening.
  • We ask that members of the public that enter our buildings please wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth.
  • In addition, please do not come to the library if you are feeling sick and/or have been in close contact with someone confirmed to have COVID-19.

Please know that a lot of thought has gone into the safety of our staff and patrons.  We appreciate your patience as we all adjust to the new normal. We’re in this together and together we’ll get through it.

Sincerely,

David Conklin

Director
