Created in 2002, the Black History Month Brunch is one of Genesee County’s premier events. It provides an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate the contributions of African Americans to world history. The brunch also inspires residents to reach their full potential and to make a difference in our community, state and nation. A portion of the proceeds from this ticketed event helps support the GDL’s Summer Reading Challenge that reaches over 10,000 children in Genesee County.

The 2018 event was a huge success! Thank you to the Early Literacy Sponsors, GDL Foundation and Hamilton Community Health Network, and Children's Book Contributor, University of Michigan-Flint. Their sponsorship and donations will provide 300 books to GDL's youngest patrons who participate in this year's Summer Reading Challenge.

The 2019 Brunch will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Genesys Banquet and Conference Center. Featured entertainment will be Grammy-nominated gospel singer, Anita Wilson. Tickets will go on sale after Thanksgiving.

The Black History Month Brunch Advisory Committee is no longer accepting nominations for the 2019 Brunch.  They are now accepting nominations for honorees for the 2020 Brunch.
