Summer Reading Clubs

These programs are from June 16, 2008 through August 2, 2008.

How the programs work:

  1. Sign up for the Summer Reading Club at any library branch (children) or online (teens). See the specific program description for details. It only takes a few minutes to sign up!
  2. READ!
  3. Report what you've read. Children will report their reading at their local library branch where they signed up for the program. Teens can report their reading and reviews of books (and other activities) online.
  4. Get your rewards! That's right, we give you prizes for your reading. See the program descriptions for details.

Children's Program - Catch the Reading Bug!

How to sign up:

  1. Stop by your local GDL branch with your children. This program is intended for children under 11 years old.
  2. Fill out a sign-up form with your name and other information. We keep this form at our branch for you.

Reporting your reading:

  1. Stop by the GDL branch where you signed up for the program and ask the staff member for your sheet.
  2. Use the stamps provided to record how much you read. Your progress is recorded by the time spent reading. Reading to pre-readers counts too!

Program goals:

  1. Read 4 hours and get a goodie-bag which includes food coupons and other stuff!
  2. Read another 4 hours (total of 8 hours) and get a pass for Crossroads Village for either Saturday, August 9 or Sunday, August 10 for yourself and 3 other family members. The pass includes discounts for rides on the Huckleberry Railroad and the Genesee Belle.
  3. Read twelve more hours (total of 20 hours) and earn a free paperback book that you choose. Current Book lists (PDF): Babies, 4-8 y/o, 9-12 y/o

Teen Program - Metamorphosis

This program is open to GDL patrons ages 11 - 18 years old.

Getting started:

  1. Login to the Teen Summer Reading Program
  2. Report your activities:

Teens can earn points by reading books, reviewing books, being active in GDL's teen programs, etc. Your progress is tracked by the number of points you earn.

Earn points by:

  • Reading Books - 1 page = 1 point
  • Attending Library programs - 50 points per program
  • Join the Teen Activity Group (TAG) or book discussion group - 50 points
  • Listening to Audio Books - 1 disc/cassette = 50 points.
  • Writing in your personal journal - 1 daily entry = 1 point

Program goals:

  1. Earn 250 points and get a goodie-bag which includes some food coupons and other stuff!
  2. Earn 500 points and get a pass for Crossroads Village for either Saturday, August 9 or Sunday, August 10 for yourself and 3 other family members. The pass includes discounts for rides on the Huckleberry Railroad and the Genesee Belle.
  3. Earn a total of 1000 points and earn a free paperback book that you choose. View the current book list (PDF).
